Spring and Summer 2022 Updates

My sophomore year at Barnard included many projects and my debut in the professional performing arts world!

I started the year in Columbia University Players’ Production of “The Dead” in the Fall and worked with the LateNite Sketch Comedy group on their winter showcase.

In the Spring, I performed in Barnard College’s Senior Thesis Festival in a production of Toshiki Okada’s “Sonic Life of a Giant Tortoise” which I now consider one of the most formative experiences in my acting career.

Following a successful run and end of the school year, I headed to Paris where I took part in an acting intensive focused on theatre in translation as well as the techniques developed by Peter Brook at Le Bouffe du Nord,  Le Theatre Du Soleil, and the Ecole Internacionale du Theatre du Jacques Lecoq. While studying there, not only did I learn from top international theatre practitioners but also experienced the vibrant and unique theatre scene of Paris.

Upon my return to the States, I participated in The Tank’s play series, PrideFest, in “Possession”, an original play by my good friend Abigail Duclos. Currently, I am interning as a Casting/Literary Assistant at Stageplays Theatre Company in New York!

About

Dear Visitors,

My name is Sydney Gerlach and after growing up in California, I am now based in New York City where I am a student at Barnard College of Columbia University and pursuing degrees in Theatre and Education Studies.

I’ve been performing for over a decade on both the East and West Coasts.  My passion for performance first bloomed when after my first dance recital at the age of three, I excitedly asked my parents if I could “do it again” about 30 seconds after walking off stage.

Over the past 12 years, I’ve had the privilege to work with a wide range of talented teachers and artists and be a part of a diverse range of productions and projects.  In addition, I have consistently worked to hone my performance skills in a variety of settings including various theatre and dance companies in Southern California, the Acting Workshop at The Bishops’ School of La Jolla where I attended high school, a summer intensive theatre program at Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, and as part of the prestigious Cherubs Program at Northwestern University. Most recently, I participated in an acting intensive at Columbia University’s Paris campus.

Whether I am on stage playing a lead role for a full house or delivering a monologue for an audition, my passion for performance has never wavered.  I continue to seek out new and exciting opportunities to develop my craft and connect with artists who share my love of performing and telling stories.

Thank you very much for visiting my website and taking the time to learn a little bit more about me.  I would be honored and privileged to share my passion for performance as part of whatever artistic or commercial project you may be looking to cast.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Sydney
